Insight Now seeks your help putting debates in context

Posted at 9:32 AM on July 30, 2010 by Julia Schrenkler

Public Insight Producer/Reporter Michael Caputo regularly hosts discussions and chats, but this week he takes it one step farther:

"...can a debate not only present two positions, but find common ground and even some areas of agreement? Can the debate put matters InContext?"

Interesting... but how?

"Insight Now has experimented with its space to hold live online discussions. Now we have a new experiment to try - we call it InContext. The concept is simple we start with an extreme position. We invited two people to argue for and against that position. Then we invite all of you to help put that position in better context. By finding some common ground, we can move this discussion forward."

Caputo explains further in this video. I hope you'll participate in this experiment. The first topic: Minnesota's unique way of giving state aid to cities - the Local Government Aid or LGA program - has been dwindling. Should LGA just end?

Watch and participate in the online debate starting at noon CT, July 30, 2010.

Could you sing with an experienced voice?

On The Classical Music blog, host Alison Young brings our attention to another opportunity, a second chance:

Did you sing in a high school or college choir and then watched as your singing life slipped away while you started a career, got married and raised a family?

With your AARP card comes a chance to sing again. Voices of Experience is a choir for singers 55 and above, with or without experience.
