You most likely know by now that world-renowned musicologist Michael Steinberg died Sunday at age 80. He'd battled cancer for three years, and according to friends was active up until his last days--in fact, he just performed with wife Jorja Fleezanis at the White Pine Festival in Stillwater, MN, last month.
Steinberg fell in love with music at the age of 11. He made a career out of studying it, publishing books on it, speaking about it, and annotating the programs of several major orchestras. He holds a special place in our hearts here at MPR, and we've created a webpage containing our memories and archived audio of him to commemorate his life and work. Visit it now at our Classical site.
