In our online discussion about University Avenue contributor Jim G. describes past and present markers, and then wishes "a brave old lady" some good luck:
"Lexington Ballpark. The right fielder had to run uphill to catch a fly ball. The left fielder had to watch a homer land on the roof of the Colliseum roller rink. The Monkey Wards tower. Their separate auto center also contained a pet shop that had a mynah bird that we always stopped by to talk to. "Hellooo....."
The art deco buildings that still stand. The deserted car lots. The revitalized Asian community strip. Inner-city major food stores that are lacking in many metro areas. A community in transition, that doesn't seem to know what direction it wants to take.
A community whose face will probably be changed forever by a light rail system that will offer fewer stops and less frequent service than buses now provide. A community that should push for I-94 corridor light rail.
I wish you luck, Univ. Av., You are a brave old lady.
Oops - Almost forget the Prom Ballroom. Happy memories of young romance." - Jim G.

Bob Collins posted pictures of the line which extended more than a mile and a half winding up and down St. Paul's streets earlier tonight.
