Speak up on a mute point

Grammar Grater offers up a point worth debating this week. Beverly from Franklin, Tennessee suggested they tackle moot vs. mute:
"I loved your clarification of assure, ensure, insure. Now please do the same for moot and mute. I often hear 'that is a mute point.'"
They did. What more can I say?
