Classical 24 host Gillian Martin kicked off a firestorm with her post about the "Popera" backlash. If a singer uses a mic, are they less capable? Does popera threaten classical opera or smooth a wider path to it? To this point Martin writes:
"...but the fact remains that many people prefer the sound of popera, and those people may not be interested in seeing an actual opera."
