My Marketplace feed included two articles that caught my eye and might catch your imagination:
Seeing opportunity in rising oceans: Atmospheric scientist Carl Hodges suggests a way for us to offset rising seawater. Hodges also proposes we rewrite the rules of irrigated agriculture by supporting a crop (Salicornia bigelovii, a possible biofuel-friendly plant) that actually grows with saltwater instead of fresh.
Under dry sky, Aussies turn to the sea: Desalination plants are popping up, complete with carbon/energy offsets. According to the feature, "Almost all of Perth's fresh water now comes from the ocean."
