Midmorning: Branford Marsalis and Nick Spitzer
Posted at 7:16 AM on June 14, 2007 by Bill Wareham
At 9 a.m., jazz great Branford Marsalis joins Midmorning to discuss his music, the meaning of jazz, and a career that has seen him work with artists from Miles Davis to Sting to the Grateful Dead. The saxophonist is a three-time Grammy winner. He's also the head of Marsalis Music, the label he founded in 2002.
At 10 a.m., folklorist Nick Spitzer joins Kerri Miller to talk about the lure of the sensual music of the Gulf South and the state of Louisiana culture after Hurricane Katrina. Spitzer is the host and producer of American Routes. He's produced the show out of New Orleans, except for a brief period when the show moved to Lafayette, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. He's also professor of folklore and cultural conservation at the University of New Orleans.
