A bloggers' code of conduct?

Posted at 11:25 AM on April 10, 2007 by Bill Wareham

That's what tech publisher Tim O'Reilly is calling for, a set of rules to bring more civility to the discourse on blogs.

As you might imagine, this doesn't have universal appeal among bloggers. BuzzMachine's Jeff Jarvis calls the proposed code of conduct "dopey" and "misguided."

I don't know that we need a code, but you can count me among those who get turned off when online conversations devolve into insult-laden diatribes. And it's not just that I'll click my way somewhere else at that moment, I may not return.
