How much would you pay for political news?

The Sacramento Bee (registration required) announced today that it's launching a paid-subscription Web site today devoted to California government and politics:
The new Capitol Alert site represents the paper's first paid-subscription site. Subscriptions will cost $499 a year, although the site is offering a two-week free trial.
The site is designed as a "one-stop shopping place for folks interested in public policy and politics in California," said Bee Executive Editor Rick Rodriguez.
Sounds a lot like what MPR News offers for nothing more than a voluntary membership.
