Midmorning: Hennepin county's chief judge and "My Cancer" blogger
Posted at 7:25 AM on November 29, 2006 by Bill Wareham
At 9 a.m., Kerri Miller's guest will be Lucy Wieland, a former prosecutor and the current chief judge in the Hennepin County Courts system. Wieland will talk about rising crime levels in Minneapolis and the new approaches the court is taking in dealing with low-level offenders with drug and alcohol problems. One of those issues will be the future of the Hennepin County drug court, which Elizabeth Stawicki reported on this morning.
At 10 a.m., veteran journalist Leroy Sievers joins Kerri. Sievers has been blogging about his daily ups and downs in his battle with cancer in the the "My Cancer" blog for National Public Radio, and his commentaries can be heard on Morning Edition. He joins Midmorning to talk about his diagnosis, chemotherapy, and why he's chosen to share his ordeal with the public.
