Duluth goes butt free
Posted at 4:46 PM on July 13, 2006 by Bill Wareham
Pardon the headline, but this story brought out the junior high boy in me:
Duluth was one of the first cities to institute a smoking ban. And that pushed a lot of people onto the streets. Now Downtown Duluth has a new campaign -- against cigarette butts.
The Greater Downtown Council is putting up signs, adding trash cans, and even offering free portable ashtrays. It's all about getting people to stop flicking their cigarette butts on the sidewalk.
That's from Stephanie Hemphill's story, which is scheduled for All Things Considered in the next half hour. It should be available online here shortly as well.
Marisa Helms was also on the smoking ban beat today, reporting for ATC on the patio boom the St. Paul smoking ban has inspired.
