Nathan Norman, 5, of Rustburg, Va., has brain and spine cancer. His tumors are growing and the chemotherapy he's undergoing is just to buy some time.

He thinks cops and firefighters are heroes so he had a Christmas wish to get some cards from some of them.

Twitter and Facebook and various social media sites took it from there.

This morning, the Boston Globe reports, 200 cops from 80 departments (as far away as Los Angeles) in 93 police cars, are heading to Nathan's home from Massachusetts, carrying various cards and trinkets. They altered their route to pass through Newtown, Connecticut on the way.

They're providing a live feed of the convoy's trip to Virginia. (update: They've arrived so the feed has ended)

Oh, did I mention young Nathan has been organizing a Christmas bag project to deliver toys to kids in the hospital?

For a self-identified curmudgeon, you sure are a softie, Bob.
