In many ways, it seems it was a funeral for common decency in Brooklyn yesterday.

Brandon Moore, 2, and his brother Connor Moore, 4, were swept from their mother's arms as she fled her stalled SUV and the rising floodwaters of Hurricane Sandy last week. Allegedly, people in a nearby building refused to let her in.

This sounds like another Kitty Genovese story, the woman supposedly murdered while people closed their windows and ignored her screams. A tale of how callous people are to someone in trouble, repeated broadly, and not true. Reading the link, it sounds like only one neighbor was there, and he claims he thought someone was trying to break in.

But she wasn't trying to break in, was she? She was trying to save her children.
