As long as we're on the subject of what fans do at baseball games: Texas, I'm never going to understand you.
The cardinal rule of attending sports events: Always give the ball to the kid.
(h/t: Ben Chorn)
I don't think they were "like, actually" rubbing it in the kid's face. They took a picture of themselves with the ball. It's not as if they took a picture of the screaming kid too. Heaping amounts of faux-outrage from the TV guy.
I thought about this once. Would I give it to a kid? The chances of catching a ball must be incredibly slim; it may never happen again. But I probably would hand it over. The ball would make a kid much happier than it would make me.
I've thought about this before as well. If I got a ball, I'd want to bring it home for my young kid. But not knowing that, I'd look like a jerk for not giving it up at the game.
Don't give it to the kid -- give it to the older guy sitting next to you who's been going to games for 40 years and who hasn't ever come close to a foul ball.
I'm with @milojo. I've been to maybe a 1,000 games over the years and never came close to getting a ball. Maybe I should try throwing a tantrum next time one comes close.
I'm also sympathetic with what appears to be an older gentleman trying to impress a younger women. They seem to be having fun.
Secondworstfan - "I'm also sympathetic with what appears to be an older gentleman trying to impress a younger women."
If he was in fact a gentleman, and the younger woman was in fact worth impressing - she indubitably would have been more impressed if he gave the ball to the child.
