Ruth Anderson has died at 112, the Marshall Independent reports this afternoon. She was the oldest person in Minnesota. She's been profiled many times over the last few years, partly because of her love of Scrabble, the last game of which she reportedly played on Thursday.

According to the list of living supercentenarians, the oldest Minnesotan is now Anna Stoehr, who is just a little more than 111, and lives in Elgin.

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that Scrabble kept Anderson going.

There's no point in living a long life if your mind isn't along for the ride.

I meant to point out that the new oldest person in Minnesota also is a Scrabble player.

I play almost every night on Lexulous which is a derivative of Scrabble on line. It is stimulating for the brain and you get to play with people from all over the world. Very invigorating.

Esther Sharrow of Sartel MN is going to be 106 in April & she lives on her own & does ALL of her own cooking & cleaning. Her mind is as sharp as a tac.
