According to Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, via Twitter, the team has hired Rick Adelman as a coach.
The significance? This is the first time in franchise history that the team has had a coach -- at least a real coach from an NBA performance point of view. The worst team that Adelman ever coached for a full season, had almost twice as many wins as the Timberwolves last season. That may be why many Timberwolves fans are asking, "what's the catch?"
The catch, at the moment, is you may not get to see him coach. The NBA has locked out its players and there's no real sign of movement and there's always a chance the season will be canceled, which -- when you think of it -- is precisely the way these sorts of things tend to go for our local entry in the National Basketball Association.
Still, with the Twins being a disappointment, the Vikings being the Vikings, and the Wild being boring, perhaps the time is right for the Wolves to step up.
Adelman may be the guy to do it. He's a down-to-earth, man-of-the-people type, who is more animated than his predecessor, Kurt Rambis (yes, it's a very low bar). He might be the most animated guy in the joint, now that that front-row customer who used to pretend to be a coach on the sidelines doesn't show up to games anymore.
So here are some the greatest expressions in Adelman's portfolio, all of which we should be seeing the minute the lockout ends and the games begin. And, by the way, we'd love to have the turtleneck-and-sport-coat look come back.
Around here, coach, we think it's a good sign as long as you're not covering your eyes. Like we are.
"that front-row customer who used to pretend to be a coach"
I guess it speaks to how desperate the T-Wolves have been, when they do bobble heads of season ticket holders instead of players.
This news has me really excited as a Wolves fan. I'm trying to keep that excitement in check, what with the lack of movement on the CBA. Still, I'm really excited.
NOT excited about the turtleneck (or even worse -- mock turtleneck) making a comeback. Just say no, Coach.

Speaking only for Section 211, I can say only that we had a better season than the players.
