Much ado about Beasley

If you only paid attention to the news reports of Minnesota Timberwolves player Michael Beasley's run-in with a fan during an exhibition game, you'd think he'd drowned a bagful of kittens.

This was the scene...

It happened at Dyckman Park in Washington Heights in New York. It's summer. It's New York City. It's basketball. It's about 300 degrees. What's the big deal here?

The more important story from the game is that he still can't play defense...

The bloggers are saying the fan called Beasley a b*tch just before Beasley mushed him (moushed, as in to put his hand on the guy's face and then push).

Given the crowd's reaction, I don't think Michael was too out of line.

Meanwhile, GO LYNX!

I'm really surprised at both you, Mark G, and Bob. What Beasely did was totally unacceptable. It was a violent act, and he should be charged with assault.

Are you implying, Mark, that because he was called a word usually associated with women, it's ok for him to attack the person who uttered the word? I'll bet you anything that he calls women that word all the time.

//and he should be charged with assault.

You ever been to Washington Heights?

What you see here is what New York City playground basketball is. That's what makes it so great. It's like the International Testosterone Festival.

I agree, this incident appears to be way overblown. If I watched the kids playing on the court across the street from me, I'm pretty sure I'd see worse on a regular basis.

At the same time, KD makes a lot of NBA players look silly on the court. Bob will need to show some other footage to get me more worked up about Beasely's lack of defense, though I know it wouldn't be too difficult for him to find. :-)

That doesn't make it ok.
