In a vote that surprises no one but will undoubtedly serve as the foundation for dozens of glossy mailers you'll get during the next election season, the Minnesota House officially rejected Gov. Mark Dayton's proposal to raise income taxes on the state's wealthiest residents this afternoon. The bill would've jacked up income tax rates for couples earning $300,000 a year.

One DFLer agreed with Republicans. Here's the roll call vote:

This trickle down theory has got to go..BS...the rich don't hire because they have money to spend, IF they're in a position to hire at all (i.e. own a company). They hire when consumer demands go up. To test this theory out, I propose we fire all Republicans that voted against this bill and we'll see how many of their rich friends give them a job...maybe that's what they were protecting in the first place!

There is a chance that this year I would have to pay these extra taxes and I welcome the opportunity. I would much rather be prosperous and pay more in taxes than not to have not earned the money.

Also, though I haven't reviewed the exact language of the proposal, I doubt this increase applies to capital gains taxes (which it probably should) that account for a large amount of the highest earners income.

W Wilkins,

I would suggest you just write your check quietly and send it on without sharing your moral superiority. While you may think St. Paul is the best way you can spend those funds many others disagree, not out of greed but out of our own sense of right and wrong.
