Enjoy sitting? We stand by you

Bob Collins is off today, and no one can do 5x8 like him, so we won't even try

This just in: The rapidly-spreading "Sitting is killing you" meme may killing you faster than sitting is killing you. It's producing a lethal cocktail of guilt for enjoying sitting and frustration over the inability to do much about it in the workplace.

You've seen this infographic, right?

Some people are, ahem, taking a stand -- take Steve Mullis of MPRnews.org, for example.

We even have a treadmill in the MPR newsroom now. Fighting the good fight.

I set up my standing desk on Tuesday after mulling it for a few weeks (independent but not unaware of the sitting is killing you wave). So far so good, my feet hurt a little yesterday and I enjoy my lunch break a lot more. I even take breaks away from my desk now so I can sit and that is much more relaxing than the usual. I don't expect to add years to my life or shed pounds because of it, I do expect to feel a little better.

If your workplace has $800 they want to blow towards your continued health (or if you have that much to drop on your own home office) you can always get a GeekDesk (link). I've been wanting one of those for awhile, after working at a software development firm that had a similar electric desk. Really convenient, but really expensive.

Of course, you can always just prop your desk up on cinder blocks or something.

Also, awesome to know that slouching back as far as your chair will tilt is good ergonomics.
