That's a loon on Lake Calhoun this morning, taken by MPR producer Jayne Solinger. It's a very lonely loon, but a loon nonetheless. Its arrival, of course, is another sign that spring has taken hold in flyover country.

In other news, several inches of snow are expected this weekend.

Bob - I miss spring, and even the risk of unseasonal snow.

Perhaps the grass is always greener/the snow always whiter with distance.

(sorry about the misplaced comment. pushed the wrong button :-(

To quote your own promo on MPR:

"We're snowblind this morning when we should be celebrating spring"

Cool. I didn't know that Lake Calhoun had loons. I thought loons just lived in northern MN. But then, I don't know much.

Dear Jamie -

Here's something that's kinda cool too:

Don't they just migrate through here and spend most of the summer farther north? Time to check out Larry's loon cam...

St. Paul Loon sighting: I saw one on Lake Como while out running last night.

Some may say there are plenty of loons around the state capitol as well.
