The ice storm cometh

After this morning's painful -- and unsuccessful -- search around the driveway and environs for the morning paper, here's something I didn't expect to see on the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Web site. A clean map with no reported "incidents."

But it's not hard to see why (I694 at Lexingont):

Say what you will about Minnesota drivers, but there's clearly a point at which they'll stay put. This ice storm -- said to be the worst in 20 years -- is one of them.

That wasn't the case, however, last evening:

A United Airlines flight from Boston to Chicago made an emergency landing in Buffalo today after a window blew out on the plane.

If you ever wanted to see a good example of how Twitter can be a go-to source for breaking news, check out the tweets coming from Andrew Phelps, who is a reporter for WBUR, the public radio station in Boston. He was on the flight.

It's also a good example of the horrible customer service provided by most of the nation's major carriers.
