The caliber of our political discourse

It's clear that she's squarely in favor of protective eyewear.

The next time you hear somebody complain about the state of politics in Minnesota, show 'em this ad from Arizona.

I've looked into it, and as far as I can tell, it's real.

Why wouldn't you think that this is real? The Sarah Palin phenomenon has proved that people will respond positively to low-brow talk like this.

This is probably the most over-the-top use of guns in a political ad, but I'm not at all surprised by it, and I'm sure it will go over very well. Guns and God are easy to sell to many people, and those people don't need to hear or see much more about the candidate than what is here.

Guns good. Taxes bad. The world is a very simple place.

Dear Disco,

Please tell us how to think, then.

Is it possible that those who like guns, i.e., see the Second Amendment as the Supreme Court just did, actually could articulate a reason why ownership of firearms should be as unfettered as possible, or make the case that higher taxes are not, in fact, a good policy, either in good times or bad?

The simple place to which you refer is populated by more of your friends than mine, I think, with their sneering and condescending attitude towards those who don't agree with them.

It is amusing that a post about the state of our political discourse immediately devolved into a slap fight.

HAHA! It sure is. *Now* can I complain about the state of politics in Minnesota? ;-)

I appreciated the word play by Eric: The "caliber" of our discourse. What caliber would that be? 45? 50? or plain ol' 32?

Now that I've had a chance to see the video, I'm not shocked, appalled, or outraged. I am confused. So if they elect her she'll shoot things? How is 40 seconds of a woman firing various firearms an advertisement? They don't even show us what she's shooting at!

All I know about her is what I can infer based on her affiliations (White, Christian, conservative, NRA member). Has she ever held public office? I have no idea! Was she just released from a psych ward? Maybe. Has she personally defeated over 100 illegal immigrants in hand-to-hand combat? Sure. Did she adopt 14 Korean babies? Why not! Give the lady a gun and send her to Washington!

Sure, maybe they answered those questions in the ad, but all I remember is "Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Oh, wait - there, in the credits: Directed by Michael Bay. Hmm... I'd've expected more explosions.
