We don't have rights to the photo so I can't post it here, but if you want to see a compelling image of war, today's Wall St. Journal has it. A staff sergeant reads the Bible to an injured soldier.

And here's one that you don't see very often...

Images of the remains of dead soldiers returning to U.S. soil tend to appear in American newspapers almost as often as they did before the ban on the photographs was lifted.
