Fresh Eye on the Radio: What we know and what we think

Posted at 5:00 PM on November 5, 2009 by Bob Collins (4 Comments)

How we interpret the news stories we hear may tell us something about ourselves. But what? When you heard the initial reports of the Fort Hood shootings, what did you think? A soldier with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome? A terrorist attack? A robbery gone bad? And when you heard one of the assailants had a Muslim name, what did you think?

As humans, when we don't know the full details of a story, we fill in the blanks. Several stories in the news today provide an example. That's the subject of today's discussion on The Current with me and Mary Lucia.

Hey Bob, can you use your enormous personal influence with the web editor group to have "Fresh Eye on the Radio" show up on the podcast page with it's own RSS feed? I usually read News Cut on my Blackberry and the ability to listen to the audio doesn't come through the mobile Google Reader. Thanks.

// the audio doesn't come through the mobile Google Reader.

That's a pitty, fasolamatt, because it was some of the best radio in the history of the medium. You'll just have to trust me.

Seriously, I don't what any of that means -- seeing as how I have a cheap pay-as-you-go cellphone that I only use for -- hey, get this! -- making phone calls, but I will walk it over to the group now and say the words you've printed here and hope that they don't ask me what I'm talking about.

Alternately, Mary and I could just call you every evening and do it for you that way.

What's a good time?

Thanks, Bob. Just call my home phone answering machine. And put the podcasts here:
