Like the Super Bowl, coverage of tonight's vice presidential debate is starting hours ahead of time. Midmorning previewing the debate during the first hour (9-10) and we're live-blogging that conversation and looking forward to your comments.
I'll also be live blogging tonight's debate itself between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin and we're looking for your comments and analysis as the event unfolds in St. Louis, in what appears to be the most highly anticipated VP debate in history.
.
As we did last Friday, there's a debate-watching party in the UBS Forum at MPR. I'll be blogging that, too.
And, finally, Sarah Pailn's spot on the GOP ticket has sparked a lot of conversation about how women balance work and family. We want to hear what women in our audience are thinking on this subject. Tell us about your choices involving work on MPR's "Public Insight Journalism" site.
What's with the flap (by the right) over Gwen Ifill's book? Don't both campaigns have the opportunity to reject a moderator before s/he is chosen? I believe Ifil's book has been in the works for a long time---you can pre-order it on Amazon---so it's not a surprise. Another example of the McCain campaign not properly vetting someone? Also, does her writing this book make her unable to be an impartial moderator? Does such a person exist?

I know that Senator McCain doesn't use a computer, but surely someone on his campaign has figured out how to use Google, and could have googled Gwen Ifill before agreeing to her being a moderator.
Or else they were planning on using moderator bias as a convenient excuse for poor performance, which matches a recurring theme for the McCain/Palin campaign.
Once again, the McCain campaign failed to do its research. The book was out there and any idiot could have googled Gwen Ifill and found out about the book. So either they are making hay out of something they knew about (a weak October surprise) or they're incompetant.
Furthermore, we don't know what Ifill actually thinks of Obama.
the GOP wouldn't dare schedule any more unscripted air time for Palin, this would give people more time to realize that she's totally clueless... the prospect of her becoming the Commander in Chief is frightening
