Where is the Republican National Convention?

The people of St. Paul, bless their hearts, have spent a considerable amount of energy in the last few months, reminding the national media and anyone else who would listen, that the Republican National Convention is in St. Paul.

That's not entirely true. The arena at which the nightly sessions are held is in St. Paul; that's true. But a convention is much more than the nightly session. Many of the official events of the week will be at the Minneapolis Convention Center. And the "core" of the convention is usually at "the official convention hotel." That's in Minneapolis (the Hyatt Regency). Moreover, the convention is wherever most delegates end up hanging out. That's not St. Paul either.

Of the 56 delegations attending the conventon, 26 of them are staying in Minneapolis, 18 in Bloomington and only 5 in St. Paul (Arizona, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada and Texas).

The social center of the convention is likely to be in two locations: the Mall of America and Nicollet Mall.

hmmm, I guess Wyoming is stuck in Shoreview? That's kind of a bummer! How is this decided?

Maxine , et. al.,
Shoreview is not a bad place to be when you consider, S. Dakota and Connecticut in Maple Grove.
This isn't real estate Maxine, it's politics and numbers, numbers, numbers = location, location location.
Gotta say, as a "local" would rather be in Shoreview than Bloomington.

Nothing against Shoreview but if you're in Bloomington at least you can GET to Mpls. After you finish spending time at the Mall of America.

I think we should all head for the Country Inna nd Squites in Bloomington and take the Northern Mariana Islands delegation out to eat or something.

I'm guessing that's one lonely delegation.

Actually, Shoreview is on 15 minutes from downtown--closer than Maple Grove. We are equidistant to both cities. So Wyoming is a lucky state indeed! Shoreview was also recently voted one of the top 10 Cities in which to raise a family. So there you have it!!

But I believe Maple Grove was rated #1 on the "Great places to raise your family for only 5 days" list, Lily.

It was close, though, from what I understand.
