The News Cut crop report

Posted at 2:43 PM on June 20, 2008 by Bob Collins (2 Comments)

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture releases its forecast of the country's corn crop. The price for a bushel of corn has been pushing close to a record $8 recently, but fell this week amid reports that things might be drier, and the corn crop better, than first thought... Midwest flooding notwithstanding.

"Knee-high by the 4th of July" is the old saying.

So we took the official News Cut knee out to Hastings this afternoon.

Yep, things are right on schedule. If you're a farmer where things aren't going so well, the Farmers Legal Action Group released its farmer disaster guide today.

Um, except modern corn is usually closer to waist-high than knee-high by the 4th of July.
