Obscenity trial halted over judge's porn

Posted at 4:58 PM on June 12, 2008 by Bob Collins (3 Comments)

Maybe the take-away here is if a person has been on The Dating Game, he ought not be a judge. Maybe it's an indicator.

Out in Los Angeles, a high-profile obscenity trial has been delayed because the federal judge hearing it had posted sexually explicit material on his personal Web page, including -- the Times Online reports -- "footage of a semi-naked man cavorting with a sexually aroused farm animal."

The judge is Alex Kozinski.

Kozinski. Kozinski. Where have we heard that name before?

Or maybe it was from his appearance on MPR's Midmorning in April.

Kozinski was named the "#1 Hottie in the Federal Judiciary" by a legal blog some time ago. He nominated himself.

Aw, there's no reason former Dating Game contestants can't become judges--or governors of various states, either.

Too funny! As I've heard you say to Mary Lucia, you can't make this stuff up. LOL

The reporting on this story has misrepresented what happened in important ways, and it has been highly unfair to Judge Kozinski. We all ought to stop sniggering about the judge's imagined peccadillo, and read Lawrence Lessig's excellent account of what happened here: http://lessig.org/blog/2008/06/the_kozinski_mess.html

(Collins notes: Lessig, for the record, offers no attribution for his account. It is, basicallyw hat Lessig thinks happened here)
