Today (Wednesday) I'm taking in a conference on the psychological impact of disaster, being held in Brooklyn Center. It features several panels about the I-35W bridge collapse which include victims of the disaster and responders. I'm hoping I'll be able to find a wireless connection to live blog a few seminars. If not, there'll be a large post later on today.
My Master's capstone was "Responst to Disasterd that Damage Critical Infrastructure." It is a subject that is being addressed by local agencies with varying degrees of urgency and realism.
Here is a current article about this topic
The idea is that planning for or mitigating a terrorist attack should be no different than planning for or mitigating any other possible risk (such as a tornado or bridge collapse). The outcome and response must be planned for since, for example, it really doesn't matter how the 35W bridge collapsed in terms of responding to it. If it was caused by corrosion, faulty design or a terroist bomb it still collapsed, and the How's and Why's are best left for later (like what has actually happened).
