My Morning Jacket's finale at Rock The Garden 2011

Another installment of Rock The Garden is coming up on Saturday, June 16! We've got a few surprises up our sleeves, but you're going to have to wait just a wee bit longer to find out what we have in store.

However, if your anticipation level is already maxed out and you're worrying about being the first in the queue to get tickets -- last year, Rock the Garden sold out to members before the general public had a chance to get in -- there's a way to make your life easier, particularly if you're not yet a member of The Current.

Not a member? Don't hesitate!

Tickets to the Walker Art Center and The Current's Rock The Garden go on-sale April 18 — to members first! Last year's show sold out to MPR and Walker members in record time.

Get in on the action early and become a member or renew your membership today so you can take part in this members-only presale.

Further proof that, after the party, is the afterparty:

Jim James and Jill Riley at Nye's Polonaise, singing "Stand By Your Man"

Reports say it was awesome. And now Jill can talk about Jim James being her backup singer!

My Morning Jacket at Bonnaroo

Who's excited for Rock the Garden? We are.

And reading the reviews coming out of Bonnaroo just fuels that excitement....

Spin tells us in their emphatically titled review "My Morning Jacket Deliver Brilliant Bonnaroo Set":

Perhaps most impressive was new track "Holdin' on to Black Metal," which, at times, sounds like it's hair's-breadth away from mutating into an ominously string-orchestrated Guns 'N Roses comeback throwdown, complete with supermodel theatrics and vocal screech. But "Black Metal" originated from a more modest source, a source that only a true music obsessive would've unearthed -- Kwan Jai & Kwan Jit Sriprajan's song "E-Saew Tam Punha Huajai," from Sublime Frequencies' extraordinary compilation Siamese Soul: Thai Pop Spectacular Vol. 2 1960s-1980s. Live, when My Morning Jacket starts wailing and sprawling, "E-Saew" transforms into a Primal Scream or Spiritualized gospel-punk revival meeting/chase scene/rescue mission, rising and falling repeatedly as if James is trying to teach us an essential lesson. He is: music is worth obsessing over.

Soul legend Booker T. Jones, better known as Booker T., is one of the acts The Current has sought out for this year's Rock the Garden, and we're thrilled to have him. If you can't wait for June 18th—or if you're new to Booker T.'s music and want a taste before the big show—you should head over to NPR, where he recently performed a concert for their Tiny Desk web series. Enjoy!

Hmmm, we must be on to something ...

Not that we had much doubt about the fabulous line up we booked for Rock the Garden this year, along with our friends at Walker Art Center, but we've been really feeling like we're on to something this week, with our co-headliners MGMT and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings appearing on Saturday Night Live and The Colbert Report, respectively. If you missed those broadcasts, we've posted them here for you to enjoy. If you missed out on tickets to Rock the Garden, never fear: The Current will be giving away tickets closer to the event, so stay tuned. Hopefully this gets you in the dancing-at-an-outdoor-festival mood!

Rock the Garden 2010
Hopefully you've heard the news by now that not only is Rock the Garden going to be a great show this year, it's also about to be a sold out show! If you're a member of The Walker or MPR, Buy your tickets now! We expect that tickets will be gone by tomorrow - before we had a chance to put them on sale to the general public. We are a little overwhelmed by this turn-out and show of support, but mostly we're thrilled. I'm not sure there's another event in the country that is staged by two cultural entities and that sells out completely to members. What a powerful testament to the strength of the Twin Cities arts and culture scene, and what fantastic support for two member-based organizations.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our partners at Walker Art Center; their team has been selling tickets at a record pace ever since they went on sale on Tuesday afternoon. If you haven't had a chance to buy your tickets yet, don't delay - become a member, renew your membership or verify your status now, then buy your tickets to what is turning out to be one of the highlights of the summer music season.

Follow Rock the Garden on Facebook or Twitter to get more information and updates as the event nears.

Thanks again to all the members out there who are supporting great music in the Twin Cities, on June 19th and every day. See you at Rock the Garden!
