This week the Current added a bunch of tracks to rotation from artists both familiar and new. Get the scoop below:
The Darkness will probably forever be best known for their 2003 single "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" (which was revived for a Superbowl commercial earlier this month). But if you think that the Darkness' fan base has in any way diminished in the nine years since that anthem launched their career, think again: still going as strong as ever, the band sold out their First Ave show last weekend and have a new single out.
This sprawling Texas-based outfit (whose past members include none other than Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent) is known for their epic orchestral psychedelia. It's been nearly five years since their last album, 2007's The Fragile Army, and while it's unclear if this single is a one-off or if it heralds the arrival of a fourth full-length from the group, it certainly bears their strangely uplifting fingerprint.

A new band recently signed to indie flagship label Merge Records, New York's Hospitality write hooky, straightforward rock songs, with singer Amber Papini's lyrics tackling youthful ennui with equal amounts of bittersweet sensitivity and snarling wit. Their self-titled debut is out now.
This Scottish soul-pop chanteuse has enjoyed stunning overnight success in the UK, and is now making a bid for American audiences with her just-released debut Our Version of Events. Enjoy her clever songwriting and lovely voice, and if you like this track, be sure to check out her show at Minneapolis' Dakota Jazz Club on March 5.
