Valentine's day is coming up in a few short weeks, and whether you're celebrating your loving relationship or wallowing in your broken-hearted memories, the Current has got a playlist for you! We'll be playing our listeners' favorite love songs on February 14 at 6 p.m, then on February 15 at 6 p.m. we'll follow it up with a selection of our listeners' favorite break-up songs. Request your favorites below!
Best break up song (album) ever: Lover please, Melissa Etheridge. Hands down. Just enough begging, pissed off and heartbreak, along with that raging guitar to make breaking up something to actually look forward to. I have given this album (Skin) to more than a few friends in their breakups. Moving from pissed to peace is a tough road to hoe and Melissa surely seems to know what she is singing about on this one.
Beautiful South - You're Boring but I Love You
Lavender Diamond - You Broke My Heart. It's a triumphant sad.
Don't think twice, it's alright -Bob Dylan or for that matter Peter, Paul, and Mary
First, I just want to express my disappointment that you are having the break-up songs the day after... let's face it, no one cares about the 15th: You need angry and bitter break-up songs on V-day to help you make it through the evening with as little alcohol as possible (with other single friends, if you are lucky).
That said, my picks:
"Love ridden" - Fiona Apple
"Smile" - Lily Allen
"Not Big" - Lily Allen
"You Oughtta Know" - Alanis Morissette
"Putting the Damage on" - Tori Amos
"No Children" - The Mountain Goats
Just about anything by Morrissey or the Smiths.
Crazy by Patsy Kline
I Don't Love You - My Chemical Romance.
Quite fitting, since the break-up songs will be played on the 15th. ("I don't love you like I did yesterday.")
"I am Trying to Break Your Heart" - Wilco
Break Up/Bad Relationship Songs:
"Erase"- Mika- To the man that I was confused the whole time I was with, I just wanted to erase the existence of our pseudo relationship.
"The Jeep Song" by The Dresden Dolls
"I'm Not Okay, (I Promise)"- My Chemical Romance
"Foundations"- Kate Nash
Love Songs:
"You and I" Lady Gaga
"Dresses Sharply" -An Horse
"On S'attache" - Christophe Mae
"I Need You"- Alicia Keys
"Daniella"- John Butler Trio
Genesis- Jorma Kaukonen
I have to agree with 'A'. The break up songs should be played on Valentines day as well. It's a day that has come to symbolize love or heartbreak depending on your relationship status. Here is what you do. Love songs in the even hours ( divisible by 2 ) / Break up songs in the odd hours ( you can divide by 2 but there is always one left out ) I think it's a good plan :-)
Love -
When it don't come easy by Patty Griffin - the most beautiful song ever written (I know that is a big statement, but this is opinion based anyway)
Break Up
Hands down "Black Eyes and Broken Noses" by the Sidewinders who then changed names to the Sand Rubies. Contact me if you need a copy.
If the phone doesn't ring it's me - Jimmy Buffet
