By now you've probably heard about this story: a Minnesota high school principal is
apologizing for pep rally prank earlier this month in which blindfolded students were surprised to find they had kissed their parents in front of hundreds of classmates. We won't embed the video here, but here's a link (we're too grossed out). From the AP:
"In an interview Thursday, Rosemount High School Principal John Wollersheim says the event was organized by the high school staff, but he was accountable. A one-minute video of the smooches has gone viral on YouTube. In the video, the captains of several winter sports teams were lined up along a wall of the gym opposite another line of students. The captains were blindfolded and told they had to guess which student kissed them. However, the students were swapped out for the parents of the athletes."
So. How do we intend to make a 9:30 Coffee Break out of this? Well, we'll leave that to you; help us build a set of tunes that bring together the various elements of this thing. Keywords to consider: pep rally, gross, sick, parents, prank ...
Songs played:
Mudhoney "Touch me I'm sick"
Fountains of Wayne "Stacy's Mom Has Got it Going On"
Prince "Kiss"
Gary Glitter "Rock and Roll Part Two"
Beck "Nausea"
The Bee Gees "I Started a Joke"
How about the Spanish version of "Mickey" by Toni Basill?
Judy Brown's - The Homecoming Queen's got a Gun
Popular -- Nada Surf
Parents Just Don't Understand -- DJ Jazz Jeff + the Fresh Prince
Paul Simon: That Was Your Mother
I could have lived the rest of my natural life in a state of perfect contentment had I not heard this story this morning. So thanks for sharing. (No way am I watching that video!)
Here's my song: Yuck - "Get Away." The band name works just as well as the song title.
Pep Rally? You've got to play "Gary Glitter - Rock and Roll Part 2"
Marilyn Manson - Fight Song
BeeGees - I Started a Joke (that started the whole world crying...)
I went to high school in Nashville, TN and we did the same thing! It was the football starters, and they were told to guess which cheerleader had kissed them, and then it was their moms. They all said skeevy things. It was... gross.
I think the obvious choices to play are Regina Spektor's "Oedipus" , "Janie's Got a Gun" or maybe "Cherokee Louise" by Joni Mitchell.
"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" -- U2
"Kiss" -- Tom Jones (covering Prince)
"Kiss Me Deadly" -- Lita Ford
"Parental Guidance" -- Judas Priest
