College Survival Guide: Mary Lucia's Top 10 Places to See Local Music

It's hard to narrow this list down to only 10, because it's so band specific for me. I would go see some of my favorite bands if they were playing at a diaper land fill dump. Speaking of favorite dumps...

  • 1. First Avenue Main Room. If this room was British it would be knighted. "That's Dame First Avenue to you."
  • 2. 331. Best beardo watching.
  • 3. State Theater. Great sound and purty to look at, while your mind and eye wander during the opening act.
  • 4. MN Zoo. Chimps and rock — what more can I say?
  • 5. Kitty Cat Club. Swellegant surroundings.
  • 6. Lake Harriet Bandshell. Insane backdrop. Closest you'll come to seeing John Tesh at Red Rocks.
  • 7. Fitzgerald Theater. Makes you think of both an incredible American writer and the ghost of Lindsay Lohan here in this historic building.
  • 8. Minnesota State Fair Grandstand. Everyone I've ever met in the last 6 years has mentioned the Flaming Lips/Sonic Youth Grandstand show. Apparently everyone I've ever known was at that amazing show.
  • 9. Cause. There needs to be more bars/clubs within "stumbling distance." Just sayin.'
  • 10. 7th St Entry. I often ask if you'd rather eat lasagna off the floor of the Entry or be beaten with a frozen garden hose?
