On the occasion of the birthday of Gina Schock, drummer for the Go-Go's, today's 9:30 Coffee Break is a celebration of many of the awesome ladies who pound the drumkit. Help us put together a set of bands with female drummers today.
Songs played:
The Go Go's "We Got the Beat" Gina Schock

Katzenjammer is an amazing all-girl band from Norway. Demon Kitty Rag or Bar in Amsterdam, please! :D
"My Doorbell" - The White Stripes
It starts with a prominent drum intro.
"Threshold" by Sex Bob-omb
Okay, yes, they're a fictional band, but Alison Pill was a pretty kick-@$$ female drummer in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. And it would make me smile if you played them.
Cherry Bomb - The Runaways
Janet Weiss - Sleater Kinney & Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks!
"Sugarcube" or "Moby Octopad" by Yo La Tengo
Gem and the Holograms
Hole
Kate Schellenbach - Beastie Boys, Lunachicks, and Luscious Jackson
Cherry Bomb - The Runaways
Janet Weiss - Sleater-Kinney.
In particular, "Jumpers" from the "The Woods" has some of the finest drum work I've heard. "Entertain" from the same album has the drums front and center.

How about some Warpaint? In days of yore, I think Neko Case was a drummer; did any of that make it on to a recording? That might be fun to hear.
Amanda F. Palmer - Dresden Dolls
"Shelter Two" - The Evens (Amy Farina and Ian MacKaye)
Fantastic drumming by Amy Farina!
I'm here in Australia, from Stillwater, been here 11 years, and I used to have the biggest crush on Elaine from Trip Shakespeare!!!! Please play something other than Tool Master.... I would be happy at 12.31 in the morning if you played Snow Day!!! xoxox

Hiya, posting all the way from Melbourne, Australia.... I am originally from Stillwater, MN, and have been living here in Oz for 11 years. I grew up with Trip Shakespeare, and was in love with Elaine, I would love to hear Snow Day.... Love you in Australia xoxox
Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney / Quasi / Elliott Smith / Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks is the ultimate drummer, girl or otherwise.

Neko Case was a drummer for Maow, an all girl Canadian pop punk trio.
Hey Jill! You're thankfully not the only one who hates that shirt: http://www.styleite.com/media/jcpenny-homework-shirt/
I don't get it, I grew up in the 90's and I've always thought that these stereotypes of girls being not as smart as boys were long dead. Why marketers and mainstream sales society are trying to dig them up and encourage them is beyond me. Whoever approved this shirt is a sexist jerk.
pleeeasseee no Meg White. she's awful.
I thought this coffee break seemed familiar. There was a similar (though not identical) topic back in February:

Hey, it looks like JC Penny has taken down the shirt, I went to look at it a while ago and it was still there but when you try to follow the link now you just get this:

Fair Weather Fans - by the Baseball Project with Linda Pitmon on drums
From A Mother’s Prayer for Her Child By Tina Fey:
“May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers."
Linda Pitman: Zuzu's Petals
Cindy Blackman: Lenny Kravitz
Demetra Plakas: L7
Minneapolis' very own: Jessica Forsythe from Sick of Sarah!!!! All of their stuff is killer, but "Autograph" seems to be getting the most national attention right now.
I'm so sad Leah Shapiro of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was overlooked again! Maybe people don't realize they have a girl drummer, but they do and she's incredible. I'll be happy if you guys play "Beat the Devil's Tattoo" sometime during my workday 10-6pm. :)
The Gossip
Dum Dum Girls
Any and all Riot Grrrl bands
Bjork counts, right? =)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
