On Saturday, August 13, at the Indiana State Fair a massive stage structure collapsed due to rough weather conditions. Fans were trapped beneath the stage, killing at least 4 and injuring a dozen or so more. The country group Sugarland was to perform but had not yet taken the stage.


On Tuesday, August 9, in the third consecutive day of riots in London a 200,000 square-foot warehouse owned by Sony DADC was burned down, resulting in the loss of about 1.5 million CDs. The warehouse housed the entire inventory and was the main distribution center of PIAS Group, which works with over 200 labels, many of which are U.S. and U.K. indies like XL, 4AD, Fact, Drag City, Warp, Rough Trade, Domino, Sub Pop, Ninja Tune, Vice, FatCat, and Matador. Three teenagers have been arrested for the arson. CD release schedules may be disrupted in both the UK and abroad.


Academy Award winners Atticus Ross and Trent Roznor team up yet again to write the score for the American film version of Swedish writer, Stieg Larsson's, wildly successful series The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. An excerpt of the score has been added to Soundcloud.

Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's performs vocals on a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" for the film:


Surrealist director and 21st century Renaissance Man David Lynch is releasing his debut album this November 8. Titled Crazy Clown Time, the album features vocals from Karen O on the track "Pinky's Dream". The track list is available on Pitchfork.

Jani Lane, lead singer of 80's hair band Warrant, died August 11, 2011. He was 47. His body was discovered in a hotel room in Woodland Hills, a district of LA. Toxicology reports will take place within the next 2 months but as of the present, cause of death is still unknown.


Chicago native and whistling virtuoso Andrew Bird is to star in a documentary chronicling his busiest year in touring. Directed by Xan Aranda, the film is titled Fever Year and features collaborators and friends like Martin Dosh and St. Vincent's Annie Clark.The film will debut at the Vancouver International Film Festival, September 29-October 14.


North Carolina native and former Cardinals front-man Ryan Adams is releasing his 13th studio album, Ashes & Fire. It's due in stores this October 10. Backing vocals are performed by Norah Jones, who has collaborated with Adams in the past on The Cardinals' album Jacksonville City Nights. Also contributing to the album is Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' keyboardist, Benmont Tench, as well as Glyn Jones, collaborator of both The Beatles and Bob Dylan. Adams plans to tour the West Coast in the fall.
