What is SuperHeavy?

Posted at 1:58 PM on July 7, 2011 by Brett Baldwin (10 Comments)

Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if you got Joss Stone, Damian Marley, AR Rahman (award-winning composer for Slumdog Millionaire, Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics) oh and, Mick Jagger together for a record?

Admittedly, neither have we.

If that enigmatic video doesn't tell you what's up, tune-in today at 3:05 p.m. when Mary Lucia unveils the new SuperHeavy track "Miracle Worker."

Let us know what you think.

This song is BOSS.

It was an alright tune until Mick Jagger screeched his way in. I'm not entirely a fan of the lyrics and the music is kind of all over the place, taking things from reggae, folk, pop, it's weird, but listenable. It'll be interesting to see what else this super heavy band can do despite it's name recognition.

this sounds like what you would get if Bob Marley, Mick Jagger and Jewel gorged themselves at brunch and then all puked in the same bucket.

I burst out laughing when Damien Marley said "That is preposterous!" I just can't take this seriously. I want to like them so badly, but if this song is any indication of what their stuff is going to be like, I can't say I'm a fan.

I found myself liking it during Joss Stone's solos. Really, the whole song should have been hers, Mick Jagger kind of ruined the vocals for me. Then when the fiddle comes in over the reggae beat, yeah, you lost me there.

At first I was uncertain about the song, but after listening to it a couple of times, I can't stop singing it! It has an infectious character and a rich vocal texture. It is not very often that you can make such distinct voices groove in this way. Great harmony, eclectic, LOVE it!

It's not a bad song, but I hope this isn't the best they've got. The song is at it's best on the verses with Joss Stone alone and at it's worst whenever Mick Jagger is singing.

LOVE it. What a great summer vibe.

On this song, Mick Jagger sounds like Mark Wheat singing an Aerosmith song in the shower.

* note *
I don't actually watch or listen to Mark Wheat in the shower.
