Tuesday Coffee Break: Drum And Drummer

Posted at 8:56 AM on June 28, 2011 by Steve Seel (60 Comments)

Today's 9:30 Coffee Break topic is suggested by listener Bob Hicks, who writes: "If a coffee break is meant to give us a little jolt to keep going for the rest of the a.m., what's more fitting than some tunes about beat-keepers and bashing the ol' kit? (This category could of course be expanded to include percussion/percussionists, such as tambourines or gongs)." And so, songs about drummers and/or playing the drums (or other percussion instruments) today.

Songs played:
Nickodemus "Give the Drummer Some"
Wilco "Heavy Metal Drummer"
Dan and Matt Wilson "Drummer Like Me"
T. Rex "Bang a Gong Get it On"
The Avett Brothers "Kick Drum Heart"
The Stone Roses "She Bangs the Drums"

If my morning so far hadn't been so hectic, i would've heard the coffee break.

Percussion was sort of my thing on school. I would've suggested a song with Marimba, because practicing that thing....grrr.

How about a set featuring different orchestral percussion sounds in rock, such as "Take, Take, Take" (timpani), "Gone Daddy Gone"(xylophone), "Under My Thumb"(marimba).

I know there were many pop standards that had full orchestra backing- not that. THIS! Later.
