The Dean Martin version of Tiny Bubbles is the best drinking song ever. You can hear the drunkenness in his voice. It amuses me to picture Dean-o Rat Packin' it up with a cocktail in his hand in the studio recording this one...

Booh on the topic. Very inappropriate if you ask me. Encouraging your listeners to drink any type of beverage that, in the long run, will cause them health problems is very detrimental. I con't care if it's legal or not. Alcohol destroys more lives as a whole than marijuana smoking or gambling does and shouldn't be encouraged. Shame on you.

So, instead of doing a nice, cool Coffee break on the first day of Summer you do one on posionous beverages that slowly eat your liver and consume your brain cells??? Nice going people:(

Posted by doorag | June 21, 2011 9:49 AM

Totally dissapointed in NPR radio this morning. Shame on you The Current. terrible topic for any Coffee Break. Keep it up. I will see you in the obituaries soon: "The cause: alcoholic posioning after listening to the Coffeee Break, a student was found dead..."

Posted by Margarita | June 21, 2011 9:52 AM

Wow! Where's Tubthumping by Chumbawamba???

Posted by Andrew | June 21, 2011 9:52 AM

Stop censoring the post.
This is a terrible Coffee Break suggestion and topic any day of the year.
Don't encourage drinking.
it's bad enough with all the advetrtisement on TV to have an NPR station also doing it.
DOn't be instrumental in the slow consumption of millions of addicts worldwide.
Please don't do this again.
Thank you.

Haters gonna hate, Steve & Jill. Y'all were fantastic, as per your usual! Thanks for getting my day off to a great start! :)

Posted by Emily | June 21, 2011 9:59 AM

In what way does playing songs that mention alcohol "encourage" drinking? Stop whining at the DJs because they felt like making such a set.

Also, only excessive drinking causes problems. Many studies have shown consuming a light amount of alcohol has health benefits. Grow up, nay-sayers.

Posted by Cetius | June 21, 2011 10:01 AM

The people having a fit about todays topic need a draaaaank. Chill.

Posted by James | June 21, 2011 10:10 AM

When you have someone in your life who's devastated by alcohol addiction, this type of thing loses all of it's superficial/fun qualities and becomes a real life or death drama. This is especially true in someone who cannot control their drinking (as in does not know the meaning of moderation Mr. Cetius) SO, for this type of individual: ANY KIND OF MENTION OF ALCOHOL CONTAINING DRINKS IS ENCOURAGEMENT TO DRINK.
Emily: Haters gonna hate and brown nosers are gonna kiss butts.
James: You are probably too far drunk already.

Posted by Ramon Martinez | June 21, 2011 12:32 PM

Oh yeah, and one last thing for all of you: Why would someone who doesn't drink (because he/she are alcoholics) or who've lost someone dear to alcohol but loves the music that is played in the Current be put in the untenable situation of having the cause of all this suffering exalted as a theme of celebratory reverence by two dj's who are in control of the listenership during the half-hour between 9:30AM and 10AM? Yeah, I could choose NOT to listen, but I choose to listen and that's what a member-driven station attracts: listeners!! If you don't want listeners then play more offensive music and soon, you'll be out of a radio market. Thank you very much you all for belittleling something so important to one of your listeners.
