Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band lost it's 2nd member in 3 years as Clarence Clemons died yesterday of complications of a stroke he suffered last week. Clemons had been in the E-Street band since meeting Springsteen in a New Jersey club in 1971.
Clarence Clemons laid down the sax grooves on many of Springsteens classics like "Badlands," "10th Avenue Freeze-Out," where Springsteen even mentions The Big Man joining the band and Clemons was a key contributer with his sax on that beautiful instrumental section of "Jungleland."
Bruce also lost his main onstage foil. How can you forget Bruce and Clarence mock-sparring during the extended jams at a Springsteen concert.
Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band will likely carry on, I'm sure Clarence would have wanted that, but it'll never be quite the same without him.
Rest in peace, Big Man
I felt so sad last night when I heard the news. He and Bruce made so many people happy for so many years - and I saw him in concert for almost 30 years. Classy Clarence.
