New Coldplay track: Is it workin' for ya?

Coldplay released their new single "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" late Thursday night, and to use the parlance of Musicheads, we want to know, is it workin' for ya?

At time of writing, there are only 301 views on the YouTube clip, but over 4,000 likes, so we know there are tons of people out there who love this band.

From various formats for feedback, we also know that Coldplay can bring in the hate as much as they bring in the love.

So we want your help. You're going to hear the song a couple times over the weekend, and we want to know what you think about how this song fits with the Current.

And it should go without saying, but we'll say it anyway: since Coldplay is polarizing, let's keep the discussion about the song and the band, and remember to be respectful to one another re: tastes/opinions, yeah? YEAH!

I love it! I wasn't sure at first when I heard the opening notes (80?), but then it won me over. I'm excited for the new album.

I'm not a huge Coldplay fan, at least not in the last 5 years or so, but I have to admit, this might have turned me back on to them. I could see this being a Summer playlist necessity.........I'd have to hear some other new stuff to see if this is the exception or rule, but I'm likin it!

I'm a Coldplay fan, and for me this is just...fine. I'm not a huge fan of the rhythm, and Chris is almost entirely drowned out by the rest of the band near the end. I really wish they'd go back to what they were doing around the X&Y era--I know bands have to change and grow to stay relevant, but I absolutely loved that album.

meh... sounds like this track should have been on "Viva la Vida". Definitely not a song I want to hear very much on The Current, or anywhere for that matter. Coldplay has become (cold) bland as of late and needs to explore a new direction...

@Ben, I agree, could be a big summer playlist song... but is that what we want? Might as well listen to Jason Mraz. What happended to the Coldpay of Rush of Blood to the Head? I know bands grow but this smacks of "we need a hit". YAWN.

NEW RULE. When you write a song about Waterfalls, it has to at least beat TLC

IS A WATERFALL
OH
IS A WATERFALL
OH OH OH
IS A IS A WATERFALL

?

I liked where it was going right away but it took too long for it to get there. Overall, this is an alright effort from a band I really like. Still though, just seems like it doesn't go anywhere from the one to three minute marker.
Like it or hate it, I can foresee them getting a lot of airtime.

Definitely will be a pop hit, maybe play it a few times till the album comes out, but I can't see it longer term on the current

I hear bits of Jonsi in the build, but it falls short enough of that mark to be disappointing. Now I just want to go listen to Sigur Ros.
