Well, it seems The Rapture didn't happen. Unless it did and nobody got saved. Or unless we all got saved and we're all living in some alternate dimension right now. Or something.
So, since we asked you to help us create a "Rapture set" on Friday, it only seems appropriate to ask you to help us create an "Oops, The Rapture didn't happen" set today for the 9:30 Coffee Break. We're open to whatever creative suggestions you might have. Whatcha got?
Songs played:
The Beatles "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da"
Paul Westerberg "Best Thing That Never Happened"
Run DMC "Don't Believe The Hype"
Ian Ball "Failure"
Ben Lee "Nothing Much Happens"
I Was Wrong -- Social Distortion
Maybe I'm Doing It Wrong -- Randy Newman
I Started a Joke -- Bee Gees
I Was Only Joking -- Rod Stewart
They're Coming to Take Me Away, Haa-Haa! -- Napoleon XIV
Won't Get Fooled Again -- the Who [hahaha]
Oops, I Did it Again - Britney Spears
In honor of Harold Camping. Failing, again.
Since this isn't Harold Whats-His-Name's first rapture fail, how about "Oops, I Did It Again"? LOL
How about the Agnostic hymn by Iris DeMent: "Let the Mystery Be."
Sloan - I Was Wrong
Sheryl Crow - My Favorite Mistake
And, either the soundtrack version or the Breeder's cover of "Wicked Little Town" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Just in case the Rapture really happened and none of us were good enough to be taken.
Wrong Again [Let's Face it] -- Rockpile
"You Never Know," by Wilco. "Every generation thinks its the worst,
Thinks it's the end of the world."
Oh My God, Whatever, Etc. -Ryan Adams
'All Wrong' - Morphine
Just play anything by The Damned...
"Sunday Morning Coming Down" - Me First & The Gimme Gimmes (or Kris Kristofferson)
Might've been the right place, but it must've been the wrong time.
Is that all there is?
Hysteria
"Done all wrong" -Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Apocalypse Gone - The Legendary Pink Dots
(how much do you all wanna bet this doesn't get played or even mentioned, even though it's a perfect fit for this morning's CB?)
How about "Roll Away the Stone" by Leon Russell? ("Don't leave me here alone/What will they do in 2,000 years?")
This might be a little bit long, but how about "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker" by OAR, in honor of anyone who had a crazy Friday night in anticipation of the rapture that wasn't.
Joy DIvision - The Day of the Lords
The question remains: "Where will it end?"
"Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam" - The Vaselines
"Don't Pass Me By" - The Beatles
"Tired Of Waiting For You" - The Kinks
"Promises Promises" - Naked Eyes
U2-'Is That All?'
How about a snippet of GOB saying "I've made a huge mistake" ???
Talkin' Blues - Bob Marley
Cause I feel like bombing a church / Now that you know that the preacher is lying
Oh yeah forgot....."Rebellion (Lies)" - Arcade Fire
Never Mind - The Replacements
Godless - The Dandy Warhols
Rising Dream (band) - Failed Apocalypse
Radiohead - Let Down
Never Mind by the Replacements
'Starman' by David Bowie
brilliant mistake--elvis costello
god was never on your side--motorhead
Jonathon Coulton - Still Alive
Pearl Jam - Alive
Elton John - Still Standing
The Pixies - Caribou.
"I live cement
I hate this street
Give dirt to me
I bite lament
This human form
Where I was born
I now repent
Caribou
Repent
Re-pe-ent"
Paranoid Android, too much worry
some weird sin by iggy pop off of lust for life.
Wrong Number - the Cure
This is a total failure of a Coffee Break ;p
Best God in Show - NoFX
the last time he was wrong he said that his "math was off" (he forgot to carry the one). Therefore, the "math song" by Jack Black from the movie School of Rock is appropriate.
Hell - Squirrel Nut Zippers
Catch Hell Blues - The White Stripes
Sunday Morning Coming Down - Johnny Cash
I Was Wrong - The Morning Benders
Sunday Morning - No Doubt (even the band name works here!)
If It's Wrong - Friends of Lizzy
I Might Be Wrong - Radiohead
Can We Go Wrong - Hesta Prynn
DOn't Believe the Hype by Public Enemy
Im a little late but if you could play "Don;t Believe The Hype by Public ENemy, I would appreciate it very much ;))
Uhhhh...How about "Freebird'"?
Wow! Talk about expecting something more apropo to the times like maybe, "tornado songs" given that Minnesotta just lost a life in the tornado last night but hey, do another lame and unimportant Coffee Break about a non-issue like a bogus prediction. Why don't you do a Coffee Break on the Billboard Awards Worst Dresser, see who cares!
Gosh what a bore of a program. Im not listening anymore. Booooooooooo
Was excited to see what everyone came up with, and it's awesome! I was stuck on a certain theme:
Heaven Is In Your Mind -- Traffic
Heaven Is A Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle
Stop, I'm Already Dead - Deadboy and The Elephantmen
Heaven Can Wait - Iron Maiden
Heaven - Talking Heads.
@Romancandle - The 9:30 coffee break has always been lighthearted fun. For as long as I've been listening it has rarely attempted to be a serious discussion of important issues. A tornado themed coffee break would have to be handled very carefully or it could easily be regarded as flippant or disrespectful to the people who have suffered and died this weekend.
I very much enjoyed the "rapture - failed" theme, though I think they played the best song earlier in the morning when they played God (sometimes you just don't come thru) by Tori Amos :-)
