Today's 9:30 Coffee Break theme comes suggested by Bob Hicks of St. Paul, who writes: "First, what's not to like about the double entendre nature of the theme? Secondly, there's nothing like a little dirty sax to get the blood flowing." So help us put together a set featuring some sweet, wailin' saxophone this morning.
Songs played:
Madness "One Step Beyond"
Morphine "Honey White"
Deerhunter "Coronado"
The Waitresses "I Know What Boys Like"
Beck "New Pollution"
The Champs "Tequila"
Gotta get Clarence Clemons in there -- Badlands?
Baker Street -- Gerry Rafferty
The New Pollution -- Beck
Mirror In the Bathroom -- English Beat
Romeo Void - Never Say Never
A night Like This - The Cure
Second English Beat (anything by the English Beat)
How about some Madness?
Maybe too obvious, but anything by Morphine. Honey White is always fun.
"New Pollution" - Beck
Classic sax solo!
Bob Seger - Turn the Page
The Heat is On - Glenn Frey
(eddie murphy laugh)
Real Gone - Sam "The Man" Taylor"
Great sax solo on a tune called "Fireplace" on R.E.M.'s Document record. Also, the Stones' Live With Me off Let it Bleed.
"One Step Beyond" - Madness
Honey White - Morphine
Tequila!
Morphine-Thursday. Nothing saxier than that.
Violent Femmes – I Held Her In My Arms
Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run
Morphine – Whisper
R.E.M. – Fireplace
Deerhunter - Coronado or the Night Court Theme Song
Hey Steve and Jill,
How about:
Shotgun by Junior Walker
What You Need by INXS
...and of course,
Yakety Sax by James Q. "Spider" Rich
"Careless Whisper"- George Michael. That's some saxy sax, right there.
I am a fan of older DMB. The dirtiest song they do has to be "Repunzel", with some sweet blasting sax. Otherwise, "Crush" is super smoove. RIP Leroy.
"Space Oddity" - David Bowie.
"Comanche" - The Revels (as heard during that scene at Zeb's in "Pulp Fiction")
Katy Perry - TGIF (from yesterday's No Apologies)
and I second Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty... POLICE ACADEMY IN THE HOUSE!
"Biggest Star" from The Elected's album "Sun, Sun, Sun." That's some high quality bari sax.
Oh, and I second (third, fourth) anything by Morphine. "Honey White", "Thursday", "Cure For Pain"...whatever.
Low Spark of High-heeled Boys- Traffic
Sexual Healing- Hot 8 Brass Band , I first heard these guys open for Garage A Trois on a riverboat in New Orleans. They did a cover of So Fresh and So Clean that was absolutely sick. Garage's sax player Skerik is probably the most innovative around these days. This is the second time I have heard the sax is making a comeback on the Current and that's indicative of what is wrong with this station. The sax never went anywhere. The djs need to look beyond bands with just guitar, bass, and drums. How boring can you get?
Barbecue - Karl Denson's Tiny Universe
The Hooch!
Such A Scream (Live) - Tom Waits
off the Glitter and Doom Live Album
Dave Matthews Band
#41
"The Sojourn of Arjuna" - Bela Fleck & the Flecktones
Shine On Your Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
Laura - Scissor Sisters
Deerhunter! Coronado! Please play it! Drrrrrrrrrty sax.
Black Goldman Sax - The Dead Kenn G's
"My horn is black and made of metal", Skerik.
Just about anything by Louis Prima with Sam Butera blowin' some mean sax......
Bela Fleck might not be dirty enough for you people... Might be some nooners happening today. Get some.
Boomtown Rats - Rat Trap (PLZ!)
Here's some punk rock from Sweden with dirty sax.
New Empire Blues - International Noise Conspiracy
Honey White by Morphine
Supertramp? Anyone? Seriously? How about a little Logical Song.
You can't have "dirty sax" without Never Gonna Dance Again by George Michael!!
