Today's 9:30 Coffee Break theme is inpsired by the activity that so many of us found ourselves doing over the weekend: digging out. There are lots of songs about digging in its various forms. Let's put together a good "digging set" today.
Songs played:
Superchunk 'Digging for Something"
The Beatles "Dig It"
The Beatles "Dig a Pony"
The Friends of Distinction "Grazing in the Grass"
Southern Culture on the Skids "Ditch Diggin"
Pixies "Dig for Fire"
Grazing in the Grass -- Hugh Masekela -- "Can you dig it, baby?" [plus 1000 other dig-its in the song]
Digging For Fire -- Pixies
Dig a Pony -- obligatory you-know-who song
The Walkmen - While I Shovel the Snow
Peter Gabriel - Digging in the Dirt
PLEASE
DIG IT UP - Hoodoo Gurus
The Days of Sand and Shovels - Bobby Vinton
Dig Me Out - Sleater-Kinney
Diggin' On You - TLC
I Dig You - Cult Hero
"Dig It Out" by Linkin Park.
Second Peter Gabriel--Digging in the Dirt
Joss Stone--Super Duper (Are You Digging on Me?)
Dig - Incubus
incubus-dig
tlc-diggin' on you
the beatles-dig it
the coup-dig it
"Dig It Deep" on Fun? The Candy Skins
"Got a Great Big Shovel" Sammy Davis, Jr.
Chemical Brothers - "Dig Your Own Hole"
Can You Dig It? - The Monkees
I Dig Love - George Harrison
Anything but "Dig a Pony", PLEASE!
Billy Bragg, "The World Turned Upside Down" about the Diggers movement in 1649!
kanye - 'gold digger'
I Dig You - Zumpano
Saturday in the Park - Chicago
Digging in the Dirt - Peter Gabriel
Pretty sure I'm going to be the only one to suggest Chicago's "Saturday in the Park," with the iconic line: "Can you dig it? (Yes, I can.)"
Dig A Pony - The Beatles
I alway nominate the Beatles, because one day Jill & Steve mentioned someone complained about the amount of Beatles songs during Coffee Breaks... I don't who that was, but the entire planet can always use more Beatles songs! Beatle haters suck.
Dig it by the Beatles
Can you Dig it? by MC Lyte
Dig by Incubus
Digging a hole by the chapin sisters
I dig you baby by Jerry Butler
Digable Planets - Jimmi Diggin Cats
Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis
No Diggity - Blackstreet
"I Dig You" - Boss Hog
"Dig It" - Skinny Puppy
I second the motion for the Pixies "Dig For Fire"
Just me and my Husky snow blower for the last two days, so how about: "Blowin' In The Wind" by Bob Dylan? And I second Sara on "Please-No Dig A Pony!"
Dig Out Your Soul - Oasis
Working in the Coalmine - Devo's version
"Pretty sure I'm going to be the only one to suggest Chicago's "Saturday in the Park," with the iconic line: "Can you dig it? (Yes, I can.)"

Second this.
Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole
The early 90's band 'Dig'
Pixies 'Digging for Fire'
Dave Matthews Band - "Grave Digger"
Mudvayne - "Dig"
billy bragg- digger's song
How has no one suggested:
Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Grazing in the Grass - Hugh Masekela
Guess I misjudged. Not only did someone suggest the song before I did, but looks like someone else was thinking of it too.
I really have nothing original to suggest (unless you want to play "Levitate" off of I Mother Earth's album 'Dig.')
However, I would like to second the plea for the Candyskins. I don't hear them enough!
Dig for fire - Pixies
How about "Sixteen Tons" (I'm partial to the Platters cover)--it doesn't use the word "dig" but the sixteen tons part sounds about right!
Yes. Beatles haters CAN suck it. Agreed!
Ugly Casanova Digging Holes in the Water
I agree- Grazin' in the Grass by Friends of Discinction! "I can dig it, she can dig it, we can dig it" etc. Oh yeah.
Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
"I'll Dig a tunnel from my window to yours."
Excellent use of Double Digging Beatles, J & S!
No such thing as "too much Beatles."
"Can U Dig It?" by Pop Will Eat Itself. Alan Moore knows the score!
Ach! The Friends of Distinction! I should have consulted the Top 40 book . . .
Hey, its not necessarily easier to live in an apartment. When I lived in the Wedge neighborhood they had buildings with 2 dozen units and only 4 parking spots on the ally. Now, in a complex with a larger lot, you get to shovel the plow wake from behind your car to get out when the lot gets "opened up", and then on plowing day you still have to hunt for a space on the street, so they can clear the lot. The fun never stops!
It's lou again, winner of two requested songs for today at The Current's 9:30 Coffee Break. Should be called: "5 songs just for LOU"!!!
Billy Bragg- Digger's Song!
The Billy Bragg song is great and is about the Digger's in England 1649. However, the song is actually titled 'World Turned Upside Down'.
