Today's 9:30 Coffee Break theme is inpsired by the activity that so many of us found ourselves doing over the weekend: digging out. There are lots of songs about digging in its various forms. Let's put together a good "digging set" today.

Songs played:
Superchunk 'Digging for Something"
The Beatles "Dig It"
The Beatles "Dig a Pony"
The Friends of Distinction "Grazing in the Grass"
Southern Culture on the Skids "Ditch Diggin"
Pixies "Dig for Fire"

Dig A Pony - The Beatles

I alway nominate the Beatles, because one day Jill & Steve mentioned someone complained about the amount of Beatles songs during Coffee Breaks... I don't who that was, but the entire planet can always use more Beatles songs! Beatle haters suck.

Posted by Ken | February 22, 2011 9:26 AM

Grazing in the Grass - Hugh Masekela

Posted by Betsy | February 22, 2011 9:26 AM

Guess I misjudged. Not only did someone suggest the song before I did, but looks like someone else was thinking of it too.

Posted by Gray | February 22, 2011 9:26 AM

I really have nothing original to suggest (unless you want to play "Levitate" off of I Mother Earth's album 'Dig.')

However, I would like to second the plea for the Candyskins. I don't hear them enough!

Dig for fire - Pixies

Posted by Angie | February 22, 2011 9:28 AM

How about "Sixteen Tons" (I'm partial to the Platters cover)--it doesn't use the word "dig" but the sixteen tons part sounds about right!

Posted by Meg | February 22, 2011 9:29 AM

Yes. Beatles haters CAN suck it. Agreed!

Ach! The Friends of Distinction! I should have consulted the Top 40 book . . .

Posted by lou | February 22, 2011 9:45 AM

Hey, its not necessarily easier to live in an apartment. When I lived in the Wedge neighborhood they had buildings with 2 dozen units and only 4 parking spots on the ally. Now, in a complex with a larger lot, you get to shovel the plow wake from behind your car to get out when the lot gets "opened up", and then on plowing day you still have to hunt for a space on the street, so they can clear the lot. The fun never stops!

It's lou again, winner of two requested songs for today at The Current's 9:30 Coffee Break. Should be called: "5 songs just for LOU"!!!

Billy Bragg- Digger's Song!

Posted by Lyza | February 22, 2011 9:55 AM

The Billy Bragg song is great and is about the Digger's in England 1649. However, the song is actually titled 'World Turned Upside Down'.
