Hear Random Vinyl on The Current's Morning Show, weekday mornings at 6:30am. For real, we play vinyl on a turntable.
Monday: The Animals, "Best of the Animals" (1973)
British blues-rock, led by Eric Burdon. This record isn't exactly part of the official discography/compilation list... but it does feature "15 Original Hits," according to the album cover.
Tuesday: The Vapors, "New Clear Days" (1980)
The debut LP from the short-lived band English band, "New Clear Days" was produced by The Jam's producer Vic Coppersmith-Heaven and it possesses a very Jam-like punch and snap. What else could we possibly play during an exciting hour of on-air fundraising that The Vapors' big single, "Turning Japanese"?
Wednesday: The Pretenders, "Extended Play" (1981)
This was the quite literally-named EP that bridged The Pretenders first and second full-length releases, represented the first appearances of "Talk Of the Town" and "Message Of Love." We played the hot an sweaty live rendition of "Precious," recorded in Central Park in 1980.
Thursday: Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, "Don't Pull Your Love Out" (1971)
These guys recorded instrumentals in the 1960's under the name, The T-Bones (had a hit song called "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In"). In the 70's they became Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds and made pop music, perfectly suited for AM rock stations.
Friday: Black Sabbath, "Master of Reality" (1971)
Stoner rock at its finest. "Master of Reality" wasn't exactly favored by critics when it was released, but is now looked at as a significant album in rock history. "Sweet Leaf" has to be one of THE best side one, track ones ever.
