The Current Awards: The Seel & Riley

This Friday night at The Current's 6th Anniversary Party at First Avenue, we'll be giving out a bunch of awards throughout the evening, which we're dubbing (get ready for the creativity) "The Current Awards!" Mary Lucia will present "The Looch" for artist with the best style; Mark Wheat will present "The Wheat," conferring the honor of "Keeping Minnesota Weird" to the artist who constistently impresses us with their unusual-ness; Barb Abney's "Babney" will honor her pick for the best Tweeter in the Twin Cities music scene, and Dave Campbell, host of the Local Show, will honor his pick for best local music riff (how fun is that), with "The Campbell."

So what will Jill and I present? Why, "The Seel & Riley" of course (the only Current Award with an ampersand, thank you), which will reign praise upon our pick for Best Local Album of The Year. So who will the honor go to? Gayngs? Roma di Luna? Jeremy Messersmith? Dessa? Someone else? Find out Friday night, when we present our prized, custom-made bowling trophies to our favorite local artists, for The Current Awards.
