December 20-24th
Monday: Barbara Streisand, "A Christmas Album" (1967)
The Current Morning Show received this as a gift from some listeners. We just had to play it!
Tuesday: Paul Revere & the Raiders, "A Christmas Present... and Past" (1967)
"Rain, Sleet, Snow" was the perfect song for this week.
Wednesday: Various Artists, "A Christmas Gift for You" (1963)
Phil Spector's holiday masterpiece with holiday classics from The Ronettes, Darlene Love, Bobb E. Sox and the Blue Jeans and The Crystals. Also, a spoken word Christmas greeting from the man behind the Wall of Sound.
Thursday: Various Artists, "The MN Beatles Project vol. 2"
Complication of Beatles tunes, recorded by Minnesota artists/bands. Very cool packaging and WHITE vinyl! The project benefits music in public schools. Perhaps a last minute gift idea?
Friday: No Random Vinyl. Happy Holidays!
December 27-31th
Monday: Pacific Gas and Electric, "Pacific Gas and Electric" (1969)
Blues rock band from Los Angeles, active from 1967 to 1973. They had to change their name to PG&E in 1971, apparently the actual utility company didn't like sharing their name with rock band.
Tuesday: The Shocking Blue, Compilation Record (1970)
Awesome collection of songs by Dutch band, The Shocking Blue. Their big hits were "Venus" (later covered by Bananarama) and "Love Buzz" (later covered by Nirvana).
Wednesday: Joan Baez, "David's Album" (1969)
Baez went to Nashville and made this album for her husband, David Harris, who was about to start his prison sentence for draft resistance.
Thursday: The Lovin' Spoonful, "Do You Believe in Magic" (1965)
A cool mix of pop, folk and blues on their debut album.
Friday: No Random Vinyl. We'll resume in 2011. Happy New Year!
