Neil Young performs at Northrup Auditorium tonight, and you never know quite what to expect from one of the 20th century's must fiercely independent musicians. An innovator, a free thinker, and eternally a rebel, we want to pay tribute to Neil today on the 9:30 Coffee Break with an ecclectic set showcasing a broad swath of his diverse output over the years. What would make for a good set?
Songs played:
"Down By The River"
"Cinnamon Girl"
"Harvest Moon"
"Piece of Crap"
"Ohio"
"Rocking In The Free World"
Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing from 'Live At Massey Hall'
Days That Used To Be from Ragged Glory
Keep Heart of Gold and the other worn-out trax on the shelf!
Harvest Moon - one of my all-time favorites
Ohio has been a song that has always made me stop what I'm doing and listen . . . I would love to hear it on the coffee break!! Love what you guys do!

CSNY - Wooden Ships or Ohio
Hey Hey, My My
Radiohead's cover of Tell Me Why
"After the Gold Rush"--one of my favorite songs of all time.
or
"Helpless"
Sweet Caroline
Rockin' in the free world
Ohio
Hey Hey, My My (Into the black)
"Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Famously name-checks Neil Young in reference to his songs about segregationism and race issues in the South.
Sweet Caroline
There's a great acoustic version of Cowgirl in the Sand on Live At Massey Hall
Sugar Mountain, Needle and the Damage Done
2nd on Rockin in the Free World and Hey Hey, My My
A good one featuring Ben Keith would be "Albuquerque"... RIP Ben. :(
I'd like to hear I'm The Ocean, the last couple of times I saw him he didn't do that one so I don't have my hopes up for him doing it tonight.
"Are There Any More Real Cowboys" guest vocal with willie nelson.
I remember an MTV video where he was in the foreground and everything behind him was going really fast, can't remember the tune except that I liked it.
Please play some Cinnamon Girl! The best one cord guitar solo in rock and roll history...
John from R.I.
Rockin' In The Free World!
keep on rocking in the free world
old man
hey hey my my
OH! Long May You Run definitely.
and a more recent song that would be nice:
Bandit from Greendale, which I think is one of his best of recent years..
Too many to choose from....
How about
Four Strong Winds from Comes a Time
Everybody knows this is nowhere
CINNAMON GIRL!
Like a Hurricane
Out of the Blue and Into the Black
Welfare Mothers
Union Man - Live music's better...
Sample and Hold
Mr. Soul
My request is a newer song by Neil Young, but I think a great one and one of my favorites: Falling from Above.
revolution blues
(pretty different, angry. about the manson family)
hey hey, my my--his song with devo from the 1983 movie he directed about nuclear apocolypse starring himself, devo, dennis hopper, dean stockwell...if you've never seen it you must, it's....amazing ;)
See my request on your normal request blog or whatever you call that input form.
Not Cinnamon Girl!!! Just did it yesterday.
Yes Cinnamon Girl! Thanks guys!
Neil Young & Shocking Pink 1983 Everybody's Rockin caused a ruckus with the label and he got fired according to Wikipedia and also caused REM to lose the label too. I saw him at the St. Paul Civic Center during this tour pre or post album tour - don't recall - but it was rockabilly. We were really *shocked* but pleased at the concert.
Thank you so much for this set. And for including Ohio. I love the CSNY collaboration and that era of Young's work.
Yay! Keep Rockin' the Free World, Jill & Steve!
You can't be sixteen on Sugar Mountain..........
Like A Hurricane!
Did anybody see Jimmy Fallon on his show last night do his Neil Young impersonation......FANTASTIC!....if you did not see it.
I would like to see him do a younger Neil Young from his Harvest days.
