Tune in this Sunday at 9pm with me, Melanie Walker, for Rewind: The History of Dance Music In Detroit. It's the first in a series of several shows about the birth of electronic music as told through the great cities that claim to have started it.
We'll begin by celebrating the 25th anniversary of the birth of Techno music. After the death of disco the techno wave emerged from it's ashes in the early part of the 80's. Detroit transformed from post industrial to technological and became one of the epicenters of the dance movement.
We'll be hearing from the Godfather of Techno himself, Juan Atkins, about how it all began along with acclaimed producer / DJ Carl Craig and dance mega star Moby. We'll be listening to the tracks that transformed music as we know it from artists like Innercity, Model 500, Paperclip People, BFC, Suburban Knight, Jeff Mills, Rhythim Is Rhythim, Reese, Cybotron, and Carl Craig along with the music that influenced these ground breaking producers like Kraftwerk, Sly and The Family Stone and Parliment Funkadelic.
So let's Rewind back this Sunday night and reminisce about when dance music ruled the world.
Loved Cybotron back in Detroit circa 1982, especially Cosmic Raindance and Industrial Lies. Great beat, intriguing politics, hot guitar. Why did you never play live?
Jerry, I completely agree. Wish Cybotron had played live. I'm guessing they didn't because when you're music is primarily electronic it's probably quite difficult to execute it live. I had the pleasure of seeing Juan Atkins DJ live. It was one of the most memorable musical experiences of my life.
Tuned into hear the History of Dance Music in Detroit and it's not on!!!
OK, so it started 10 minutes after 9 with a totally misleading transition.
So sorry about the delay of the airing of the show Jody! We had issues with our on air automation that was eventually fixed around 9:10pm. Thanks for tuning in!
Will this be archived anywhere to listen again online?
I heard a few minutes of this on Sunday, please put it online. I'd love to be able to hear the whole program!
This is great! Please put it online! It would be awesome if you guys would do a feature on all of the great Techno music coming out of the Twin Cities, there have been quite a few international hits coming out of Minneapolis lately.
