Tune in this Sunday at 9pm with me, Melanie Walker, for Rewind: The History of Dance Music In Detroit. It's the first in a series of several shows about the birth of electronic music as told through the great cities that claim to have started it.
We'll begin by celebrating the 25th anniversary of the birth of Techno music. After the death of disco the techno wave emerged from it's ashes in the early part of the 80's. Detroit transformed from post industrial to technological and became one of the epicenters of the dance movement.
We'll be hearing from the Godfather of Techno himself, Juan Atkins, about how it all began along with acclaimed producer / DJ Carl Craig and dance mega star Moby. We'll be listening to the tracks that transformed music as we know it from artists like Innercity, Model 500, Paperclip People, BFC, Suburban Knight, Jeff Mills, Rhythim Is Rhythim, Reese, Cybotron, and Carl Craig along with the music that influenced these ground breaking producers like Kraftwerk, Sly and The Family Stone and Parliment Funkadelic.
So let's Rewind back this Sunday night and reminisce about when dance music ruled the world.
